Keeping up with the latest trends in home design means research, intuition, and a flair for taking chances and setting trends. Otherwise, it means seeking the advise of an expert such as designer Ariel Fox.
What will the color palette be for 2013, and will you go with that trend?
Of course jewel tones are still on trend and I’ll follow that wave to the end! As for new in 2013, pastels paired with dark charcoal or navy is trending. I’ll be using this pallet for my next project.
What materials will be making their debut in 2013, and what if anything will be coming back after a long hiatus?
I’m seeing virgin materials being strong in 2013, metals, live edge wood and organic fabrics. I think lucite has been making a strong comeback!
What design concepts from last year should be left alone for a while?
Illuminated outdoor furniture should be left alone for a bit.
Given the opportunity, what risks would you like to take this year to further the concepts of design?
I really want to expand on the concept of functional fantasy. I also want to encourage more local fabrication and artisan collaboration.
If you could redesign one of your favorite places, other than your home or office, where is it, and what would you do with it?
I love my dog and we frequent a large dog park in Hollywood. I’ve had fantasies of building a chic doggie coffee shop with amazing mid century finds and a dazzling coffee bar in bronze antique miror tile. Of course our furry friends would have their own multicolored jewel toned beds and geometric ceramic bowls.
